(Week 5) random "Pledging"

This week was the first official week that pledge-ship started. I am a legacy at (∑AE) Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and part of being a legacy has its good parts and then it has its bad parts. Whats good about being a legacy is that I know a lot of the brother of the house that live in because i have visited the fraternity previous to this year when my brother attended Ball State University. So other than getting to know most of the brothers prior to Rush week i already had an automatic bid. If you don't know what a bid is, its basically a certificate that the brothers hand out to the guys that they want to pledge at their fraternity. In order to get a bid you have to go to the Rush events and really get to know and understand the meaning of the fraternity.
The down part to being a legacy is that you are more likely to get messed with because the brothers know you more than any of the other pledges. That's why its important to suck up as much as you can during pledge-ship even if you cant stand the brother just because it will make your life so much easier.
So as the first week of pledge-ship is nearing the end we will find out what greek family we are in tonight as well as who will be our big brother. Not every brother gets a "little" mainly becasue not every brother is a good influence. The pledge trainers try to pick a big bro for you that you will get along with and share the same common interests with. Tomorrow we will have our pinning ceremony and our parents will come to watch that. Im excited for the ceremony mainly becasue i haven't seen my mom or dad in over 5 weeks and would like to hear from them. I'm excited for the next 7 weeks of pledge -ship to go by so my fellow pledge brothers and i can become a part of the fraturnity and start networking with other associations and sorority's.

  1. Wow that sounds very exciting. So did you get accepted into a fraternity even though you are legacy? Were you nervous about rushing?

  2. yeah i was accepted into the fraternity i am almost done with pledge ship, our pledge class was to go through. . I Week. I Week is basically 1 week were we live in the basement of the fraternity,( the dungeon as brothers like to call it because not many of the lights work and the house was built in the 1970's so everything is set up really weird down there. There are no doors, brick walls are crumbling and it is filled with cob webs and old documents from the early days of the fraternity. Basically what we have to do during "I Week is always wear pin attire which is dress shoes, dress socks, slacks, dress shirt, tie, and Pledge Pin. We are not allowed to wear regular attire outside of the house. We will have 30 minutes to leave the house for meals, and our phones will be taken away, so there will be no communicating with others while we are in. We will have a huge national test over "the Phoenix" which is the book we received prior to pledge ship that tell all the stories and important nation information of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (∑AE). We will have to pass our national test and our local test. The local test covers our chapter and our chapters stories, creeds, and active brothers. I Week is considered as Hell Week to many other fraternities.
